Attachments are growing 38% during conversion to Unix gateway

We are running Domino R5.0.11 on our SMTP server and sending external mail through a Unix gateway. Apparently after converting SMTP server to R5, all the attachments are increasing 38% in size on the external gateway.

What should we do to correct this issue? Is there a way that MIME messages can be converted as HTML and sent to the gateway as HTML rather than MIME?

I don't know of a way, but your increase is typical of messages during the Base64 conversion. These aren't encrypted, by chance, are they? I have seen that increase on encrypted messages, especially.
