Q

Java applet slowing down server

I downloaded a Java applet that would display a bar graph in a user's mail file showing the size of the mail file...

and the % of quota being used. We tested the applet with a pilot group and no problems were found. However, when we replaced the design of everyone's mail file, it had a severe impact on the server's performance when users started to log on the next day--so much so that we had to remove the applet. My question is why? The server has 4 cpu's and 2gb memory and typically has about 600 active users.

Depends on what the applet was exactly doing.
