Third-party software that extracts attachments from e-mails?

Is there any third-party software that helps extract attachments of e-mails to another hard disk from the one that Notes resides? I want it to work such that when a user is accessing an attachment from Notes, the attachment is actually pulled from the external hard disk. I'm thinking this can save some disk space on the Notes hard disk.
I am not aware of third-party software that does this, but here is an easier idea: Why not just add another disk to the server, then move some of the mail files to the new disk? Disks are so cheap now, this seems like a simpler solution.
