I have implemented Sametime server 6.5.1 and have updated a few client location documents with servername, and everything is working fine. For the remaining users, can I use the Desktop Policy Settings document to update the server name inside the location document automatically?
The users who have policies assigned to them can have their (local) location documents automatically updated by using the "IBM Lotus Instant Messaging Server:" field under the "Server Options" on the basics tab of your Desktop Settings document.
Modifying this field will dynamically update the value in the users location documents the next time the policy is reloaded by the Notes client. Once that update occurs, the next time the user opens their Notes client the "Instant Messaging" task bar option will be visible, and the user will be able to log-on to the specified Sametime server.
