Why are some messages in a relay server being held in the queue?

Hi. We have a Domino Server 6.0 acting as a relay server. Why are some messages held in the queue, with no opportunity of delivery? These messages are kept for a long time before they turn dead or are delivered. Our servers have six Domino queues on Windows/NT 4.0 SP6a, PIII 512 MB. Thanks a lot.
Check your connection documents for delivery times and see if they are waiting for a certain number of e-mails to deliver.
