QUESTION POSED ON: 10 June 2004
We have an Active Directory at our company and are using Domino 5.0.12. I have a Domino (i.e., Web) workflow project and need the following to happen:

I need to allow the users to select one name from the Microsoft Active Directory in Domino. The selected name will appear on the Domino form. For instance, Human Resources might submit a request for an employee who doesn't have a Notes ID or Domino intranet password. I don't want to allow free text typing, so I thought doing a lookup to AD would solve our problem.

Note: The lookup will not be used for authentication purposes.

Would you suggest using a directory services database and a lightweight directory access protocol (LDAP) database? If this is not the best solution, what else would you recommend?

LDAP is your best choice for this scenario. Simply set up your AD LDAP server as a trusted source for credentials in a directory assistance document, and you will be ready to go.
