Some organizations keep their ID files in a shared directory that is separate from the Domino server. This is okay, and allows users to access the IDs from any location. Users can "roam" to various PCs and still access their Notes ID file, on the shared file server. But when doing this, it is standard to not put this shared directory on the Domino server, since a Domino server should not have any shared folders at all on it.MEMBER FEEDBACK TO THIS ASK THE EXPERT Q&A:
Notes ID files should not be pulled from network shares at all on any type of a daily basis. Lotus does not support client troubleshooting when the user's Notes ID and address book reside anywhere other than "Local" on the PC. They stopped supporting this model very early in R5. We had issues in multiple offices where, during certain times of the day, the network was saturated and Notes client performance suffered as a result. Moving the ID and address book locally resolved the Notes performance problem. If you want to move between PCs and have your Notes data backed up, move to roaming users and multi-user clients where possible.
