QUESTION POSED ON: 14 March 2006

I'm trying to develop a simple new application. The problem is, the user can only access it through the Web; the user does not have a Lotus Notes client.

There is a Microsoft Excel file stored on the user's local machine. The user has to open a document stored in a Lotus Notes database and click a button on that document. The user must be able to select exactly where the .XLS file is. Then, the data stored in the .XLS file should be exported to the Lotus Notes document.

I would like the user to do this through the Lotus Notes client. I could write the code using LotusScript, but since the user only has access to the application through the Web, I think that the code should be written in JavaScript (which is more difficult for me).

Could you please help, perhaps provide a little code example?

EXPERT RESPONSE

You can use the file upload control on your form to allow users to pick the file. You can use JavaScript to validate the file name.

Jake Howlett has a few good examples of this at his CodeStore site. See the articles Locating file upload controls with JavaScript and Limit the types of files users can upload.
