Lotus have yet to make any decisions or announcements on the certification path for Notes RNext. If R5 is anything to go by, there will be a simple upgrade path for those who already hold R5 certification, with additioinal topics and features examinable for the principal level.
As for R4 certification, Notes R4 is now over 6 years old, (R4.5 was released in December 1996), so Lotus' plans of retiring the product line for this version wouldn't seem unreasonable (M$ haven't supported W95 or NT3.51 for years, forget NT4 which still has an install base...) Notes R4.6 will still be supported for the forseeable future (given the install basec this is a wise move on Lotus' behalf).
Given this, I do not see Lotus retiring R4 certification immediately after the release of RNext.
