QUESTION POSED ON: 21 August 2001

I am a PCLP in R5 Sys Admin and I suppose Lotus will carry out the new RNext exam after the new product is shipped.

What do you think about how Lotus will require us to re-cert our CLP and do you think Lotus will retire those CLP in R4?

It may be a bit early to ask such a question but from what M$ did on MC$E, it makes a lot of people concern about their certification with the outdated product.

Lotus have yet to make any decisions or announcements on the certification path for Notes RNext. If R5 is anything to go by, there will be a simple upgrade path for those who already hold R5 certification, with additioinal topics and features examinable for the principal level.

As for R4 certification, Notes R4 is now over 6 years old, (R4.5 was released in December 1996), so Lotus' plans of retiring the product line for this version wouldn't seem unreasonable (M$ haven't supported W95 or NT3.51 for years, forget NT4 which still has an install base...) Notes R4.6 will still be supported for the forseeable future (given the install basec this is a wise move on Lotus' behalf).

Given this, I do not see Lotus retiring R4 certification immediately after the release of RNext.
