QUESTION POSED ON: 26 April 2002 We are a Domino R5 shop that is merging with an Exchange 2000 shop. We have a few important Domino workflow applications that we wish to bring to the new organization. In the new organization we would like to use Exchange for e-mail and Domino for workflow. Can our workflow apps be reworked to use the Exchange mail platform for routing documents? If so, could you provide a brief overview on how, for example, you would send a document (with doclink or reasonable facsimile) to an Exchange user? Thanks.

I'm currently involved in a similar project for a customer. The best way to handle the mail traffic is via the SMTP. One issue with regard to that method of mail routine is that DocLinks, RTF items, etc. can get stripped or "rearranged". We have recommended sending the workflow-driven links as URLs back to the Domino server. I realize this causes an issue when your application is not yet Web enabled, but that might be part of the cost of tearing out your Domino messaging platform in favor of Exchange. Especially when you have what sounds like business-critical applications running on Domino. Good luck!
