QUESTION POSED ON: 01 July 2003
I would like to set up Lotus Instant Messaging for just Notes clients on a Windows 2000 server running Notes 5.11. This server has port 80 closed, as I don't want any Web access, but would like our Notes clients to have instant messaging. Can this be done?

Where can I get samples of LotusScript/Lotus Instant Messaging integration? I downloaded some sample files but they're VS 6, so they're not there yet. Many thanks.

Sametime allows you to alter ports being used by the many types of communication protocols being used by Sametime. If you require Sametime enablement in your Notes client, this is done by using Java applets, and for that you do not need port 80. If you are going to install Sametime on a non-Web server, you might run into some problems.

First of all, the meeting center of Sametime is only Web-enabled, thus if a user needs to attend or schedule a meeting, they can't. Secondly, the admin client of Sametime is also Web only, which you need to set up Sametime.

My suggestion is to check the admin client or admin guide for all ports used by Sametime. Nearly all ports can be changed to a port of your liking, following the guidelines stipulated in the admin guide. So, in short, yes, it can be done, but you will loose a lot of the Sametime functionality.
