QUESTION POSED ON: 01 October 2003
We have an Java application authenticating with a Domino LDAP directory. cn="shortname value" and password were passing through and working most of the time. If multiple person docs contain the "shortname value" in another field such as Firstname, the authentication failed. We've looked at "Fewer Name Variations with Higher Security" parameter on the server doc. It limits the search for Notes but didn't make a difference for LDAP authentication. Any idea what we missed? Thanks.

The simplest answer to eliminate the duplicate short names. You should not have duplicate short names, as it will cause issues such as this, as well as potential mail delivery problems.
