QUESTION POSED ON: 02 March 2004
I have a Domino R5 server receiving external Internet mail via SMTP. I want to be able set up a failover system with a clustered server such that when the primary server fails the SMTP will be delivered to the secondary server ready for automatic processing. Both servers are set for inbound and outbound SMTP. I've tried using Foreign Domain documents for each server pointing to each other together with DNS MX records where the top priority is the primary server and the other server is secondary.

What advice can you give?

EXPERT RESPONSE
For inbound mail the MX records need to be set so that the main inbound server has a preference higher than the secondary server (looks like you've done that part). For outbound mail, you can set the notes.ini setting MailClusterFailover=1 on all the servers.
