QUESTION POSED ON: 18 February 2004
Would you kindly provide me with step-by-step instructions on how to use LEI 6.0/6.5 to integrate data from two different databases (i.e., SQL Server and Oracle 8) onto a Lotus Domino database?

For good or bad there is no such thing as a step-by-step guide beyond installing the software you have mentioned, and Lotus took care of that for us. You should think of the backend data sources (plural) -- SQL Server and Oracle 8 -- as your data source (singular). You would set up the LEI activities as if all the data was in only one system with the slight caveat that your Connection documents point to two different database systems. I suggest that you find the most straightforward and simple data transfers that involve both SQL Server and Oracle and start there.

So, you would begin with creating three Connections -- the first to a table or view in SQL Server, the second to a table or view in Oracle, the third to your Domino database. Set up a replication activity that uses whichever DBMS has what you would consider the master data record (the top level data, like a company name and its unique ID). Next, setup a secondary replication activity that merges (i.e., updates only) data from the other database.

It's like building a puzzle. Patience and perseverance go a long way. Also, having a DBA that can help you with the data relationships will greatly help!
