QUESTION POSED ON: 22 March 2004
An enterprise customer is asking if Domino R5 and WebSphere Application Server 5.02 can implement SSO using Novell eDirectory (NDS) as its LDAP source. Have you ever encountered anyone doing that? In theory it should work.

>
In theory this should work, but as the old adage goes, "In theory there is no difference between practice and theory; however, in practice, there is." Domino R5 has a concept called Directory Assistance that enables Domino to search an external LDAP directory for authentication information after searching its own directory. Thus you can set up single sign-on between Domino R5 and WebSphere 5.0.2, then have Domino search the Novell directory in LDAP terminology. The net effect is that users should be able to log into Domino and WebSphere with one login that is either in the Domino Directory or in the Novell directory.
