There are a number of ways to tweak your Lotus Notes Domino application's interface to please users, including:
  • Minimize scrolling: Try to design your screens so that everything fits on the Notes user's default resolution. Using a tabular format under the "Tables" property box is one way to do this. A tabular format is intuitive and allows you to further organize fields in a meaningful way versus using a three-page, one-field-per-line approach.

  • Use smart validation: Provide users with meaningful error messages so that they don't have to request a translation of what they did wrong. Use the GoToField method of NotesUIDocument -- if validating with a script -- to advance the cursor to the point of the infraction.
  • Spend some time on coloring: Let's face it, the mustard yellow background with red and blue text may not be for everyone. There are several interface specialist sites such as Chris Blatnick's website at www.interfacematters.com with pages devoted to creating eye-pleasing color combinations within the Lotus Notes Domino user interface.
