Professional Domino designers are likely to be the first to benefit from the recent collaboration efforts between Lotus Development Corp. and Macromedia Inc.
The newly released Lotus Domino Design Components for Macromedia Dreamweaver software bring developers a unique, collaborative Web-authoring solution.
The design components package adds sync controls to Dreamweaver, meaning objects such as Domino views, searches or forms can be inserted directly into a Web page.
The site can then be published internally or externally, with components linked directly to a Domino server.
Matt Brown, third-party relations manager for Dreamweaver, said the new components feature drag-and-drop extensions to make it easy to use.
"You don't have to use some arcane path. It puts a placeholder on the page and indicates where that Domino component is going to be. In the case of a Domino design component, if you insert a Domino view into the page, and you right click on it, you can change what database it's coming from," Brown said.
He also said the open architecture of both products is what makes the integration possible.
"There's no limitation whatsoever... it takes a site and all its assets, and when your users access that using a Notes client, then it's going to reassemble those pages and grab those pages out of the Domino database," Brown said.

"You can build more attractive Domino sites that are stickier, if you will, and keep people on the page longer," he said.
The beta version of Lotus Domino Design Components is available now at no charge from both Lotus and Macromedia. The final version will be released at the end of July.
