Admin2002 to kick off next week

More than 1,200 Lotus Domino administrators are expected to converge in Boston next week for Admin2002, the Notes and Domino administration conference organized by the Dedham, Mass.-based technical journal The View.

The three-day conference, which begins Wednesday, May 1, will feature 56 sessions revolving around six general themes: messaging, infrastructure and performance, administration, integration and collaboration, Web and wireless, and Notes and Domino 6.

Benny Dicecca, vice president of conferences for The View, said he expects this year's new Domino 6 lab to be the hottest attraction.

The lab will offer attendees a chance to check out Domino 6's new Administrator Client and server performance features with Lotus staff on hand. Lab sessions will run every 90 minutes throughout the second and third days of the show.

Also new this year are pre-conference Jumpstart Sessions. These three-hour sessions, held Tuesday prior to the start of the show, offer extra training in areas such as development for Domino administrators, preparation for Domino 6, basic Notes and Domino administration and Domino messaging.

Another new event this year is the Notes and Domino performance and administration panel discussion, featuring Lotus' renowned Iris Performance and Administration Team.

"It's just an open-mike session for users to ask questions and get any answers they ever wanted," said Dicecca, "and to offer suggestions for new features and improvements."

Other show highlights include Ask-the-Expert sessions, informal Birds-of-a-Feather discussion group sessions, a product exposition featuring about 60 vendors, as well as a Wednesday night cocktail party and a Thursday evening disco party.

"We're in an interesting time in the Domino market. We're hearing a lot about how the product is going to change," said Dicecca. "Some shops are going to Domino 6, some are still on 4.6, but if people need the best info on how to upgrade, this is the place to be."

The cost of attending Admin2002 is $1,595 for all three days, though group rates are available. Attending a Tuesday Jumpstart Session will cost an additional $99.
