Moderator: The Live Expert Q&A has begun. Our speaker today is Lotus product managers Ed Brill and Jason Dumont. They will be answering questions on Lotus iNotes Web Access.

ferrao37730: What steps are required to transition current R5 users to iNotes?

Jason_Dumont : 3 steps. 1. You need to ensure that user's have a HTTP password. 2. Change to the iNotes5 mail template 3. Run the convert utility to make the design switch at that point just make sure the users know where to go to get to thier mail file.

michael.parsons49882 : Does iNotes run seamlessly with outlook or other mail clients?

Ed_Brill : Lotus iNotes provides open- and web-based access to the Domino server. That includes iNotes Access for MS-Outlook (using the Outlook client as a mail/calendar client for Domino) and iNotes Web Access, for web-based mail and PIM capabilities on Domino. Both include iNotes Sync Manager, which provides offline replication capabilities for a superior mobile experience.

bb257989: I have a web-facing 5.0.2c server doing SMTP and hosting mail db replicas. Need I ONLY apply the new iNotes template to the mail DBs to test iNotes, or does my 5.0.2c server need to be replaced by Shimmer?

Ed_Brill : There are changes to the core server code, so it will be required to run the 5.0.8 server. There's no "migration" to R5.0.8, it's just like installing any QMR.

joe_feghaly53271 : Many of my clients would like to know when inotes will be launched officially so they plan their infrastructure based on it?

Ed_Brill : We are planning to release iNotes Web Access with R5.08, scheduled for release in June, 2001. Like any software product, this timeframe is our plan. You can track final release of the 5.0.8 QMR on our www.notes.net website, under "QMR/QMU status".

bstrugnell947328: From a previous transcript on your website "Implement Lotus iNotes to use browsers with Domino", Scott_Loev mentioned that iNotes was built for functionality and not performance. Why not both?

Jason_Dumont : The initial release will not support Netscape 4.7 or 6. We are committed to providing a version of iNotes Web Access for Win32 version of Netscape 4.7. Since Netscape 4.7 doesn't support DHTML, XML & DOM2 we have had to rearchitect the product to get it to work on Netscape. We will be doing a Netscape version it's just a lot of work to get the old dog to do new tricks.

rking892408: When creating a person or journal document via the web, these docs are stored in the mail db. Any auto-synchronization planned in the Notes Client (there are manual methods via the Actions menu bar)?

Jason_Dumont : We won't set it up by default in the first release to run automatically however, we will provide information on how to do this (probably via Notes.net). We're looking to provide this automatic option in the next release.

james527621: I'm wondering about iNotes on a 486-class machine attached to an office LAN. Will it run at all? If it will run, will it perform acceptably?

Ed_Brill : Sorry, but we're not testing or supporting this configuration.

hans.miller466719 : What is Lotus' strategy for integration between iNotes/Kstation? What can we expect for ease of use/etc?

Jason_Dumont : We have designed iNotes Web Access so that you can take components of the product and integrate them into a portal, not only K-station but other portals. We've done this work because we know that we won't have the luxury of painting our entire UI in a small portal window, yet users will still need all of the functionality of say their inbox or calendar.

bob_sintzel85486 : Given that one IWA session equates to three or more Notes client sessions in terms of CPU load, when can we expect to see improved load characteristics for IWA?

Jason_Dumont : We are on track to achieve (and probably exceed) our performance goals for the first release. However, something like performance is an on going process. Can you ever perform too well? I don't think so. So we have already done significant performance work in the Rnext Domino server to improve the overall performance of iNotes Web Access.

bob_sintzel85486 : Using the full-featured R5 client, I can work locally (off-line) and replicate my mail as required. Other than saving around 80 MB of disk space, what other benefits are there to using IWA?

Ed_Brill : The Lotus Notes client offers the most beneficial messaging and collaboration environment for Domino users. iNotes Web Access is best suited for deployments not needing the full capabilities of Notes, or for, as you describe, "no touch" deployments.

tiassa196961: Will the iNotes template be part of the 5.08 QMR?

Ed_Brill : Yes

marilyn.l.custer587907 : Can you use the Lotus Notes client and still have the inotes template for your mail file?

Jason_Dumont : Yes, once you use the iNotes template you can continue to use your Notes client as you do today. The user experience will be the same on the Notes side. We have designed iNotes Web Access so that you can have one template and easily use Notes in the office and iNotes Web Access when you're remote.

ldw472203: How will attachments be accessed (i.e. Word docs)?

Jason_Dumont : You can place an unlimited numbre of attachments in the iNotes Web Access drag and drop attachment control. You can view them as you normally would if you have the associated program. Since iNotes Web Access has virtually no code on the client machine it does not provide a viewer. iNotes Web Access will use the associated program as given by the browser.

cecil.lockaby529687 : If I want to replace cc:Mail Mobile for your sales force would iNotes be the correct way to advance?

Ed_Brill : It depends. iNotes offers some mobile and offline capabilities so your users' needs might be met by iNotes Web Access. The Lotus Notes client continues to be the best mobile messaging/collaboration client, so I'd encourage you to evaluate both to determine your users' needs.

prr188446: Will the iNotes template also work with a Notes client so that the user is not locked into browser access for mail?

Ed_Brill : Yes. It's a superset of the existing Mail50.ntf so you can use either Notes or browser to get to same mail database.

ldw472203: How will encrypted mail be handled?

Jason_Dumont : The viewing of encrypted mail is not supported in the first release. We have targeted that functionality for a second release. In the first release if you get an encrypted piece of mail in renders the mail header and subject but the body of the memo says it has been encrypted and that you will need to request an unencrypted copy or view it in the Notes client.

jnavin652308: It sounds like the inotes template will run against the R5.0.8 server. Will it continue to run on the RNEXT server code when it is released?

Ed_Brill : Yes, though you won't find iNotes Web Access in Rnext beta 1. At some future beta, the iNotes Web Access code will be incorporated into Rnext.

kgnehm204127: What is the ratio of inotes clients to server?

Jason_Dumont : I can't give a specific answer since it would depend on the server platform and resources.

bob_sintzel85486: When you do point releases, will you consider versioning your point releases and provide a detailed list of what fixes were made per version?

Ed_Brill : I think Lotus is the most proactive vendor in the industry on this front. Check out http://notes.net/qmrstatus and http://notes.net/r5fixlist.nsf to get exact status on software problem reports, including what was fixed in each quarterly maintenance release.

rpearson822781: This may seem a simple question, but what do I need to start using and testing iNotes?

Ed_Brill : You need a Domino server with iNotes Web Access. We have a beta posted at http://notes.net/inoteswebaccess , check it out!

atikhe987644: Now that we will be enabling HTTP task on our server, what kind of pratical hardware do you recommend for 1000+ users?

Jason_Dumont : Any one of the supported platforms with lots of CPU power. A thin client, like iNotes Web Access, puts a bigger burden on CPU resources.

pclark348117: How does one enable a registered Notes user using a mail template from 5.07 to use IWA given that the maile file is already replicated to a server in a DMZ for plain old web access?

Jason_Dumont : You just need to use the iNotes Web Access design template and run the convert task once on that mail file.

francol777833: With iNotes template, some of the code is located in forms5.ntf, where is this located, in the client or on the server?

Jason_Dumont : Forms5.ntf resides on the server and is in a seperate file so that we can cache the design elements on the serve for all users and therefore provide better performance.

rking181126: Since there is no current plan for iNotes for macOS, will the present WebAccess be continued in Rnext? Or will browser sniffing be used to serve up either iNotes or WebAccess depending on OS and Browser version?

Ed_Brill : It's too soon to comment on how webmail and iNotes Web Access will be presented in Rnext. Stay tuned and thanks for your input.

piannuccilli961424: Will Inotes design be part of the regular R5.0 mail template?

Jason_Dumont : No, the iNotes Web Access template is a seperate template. It is however a superset of the existing template so that the iNotes Web Access template can support access by a Notes user, an iNotes Web Access user or a webmail user. For web use we will sniff the browser type and version and render the iNotes Web Access UI if that browser supports it. By doing this you'll never not be able to access your mail due to the system you're using to access it (since many times you have no control over what's on that system).

howard.schlight643459 : Do you have any tools to move/copy the personal address book into the iNotes contacts list?

Jason_Dumont : Yes, an agent available from the Notes side when you use the iNotes Web Access design template. There is also one to bring the journal entries in Notes over to the Notebook in iNotes Web Access.

rking892408: I know we are discussing web client issues, but: Originally there were 2 versions of iNotes, one for Outlook and Web browser. Any difference in that area (since iNotes was held back for 5.0.8 instead of previously advertised 5.0.7)?

Ed_Brill : iNotes Access for Microsoft Outlook is still available in R5.0.8 and has had minor enhancements since it's release in R5.0.5. The template for iNotes Web Access is separate from the MailEXT50.NTF used for iNotes Access for MS-Outlook.

lborg523385: Installed beta 2 of Inotes. Did not notice that the client interface changed. It did not look like the iNotes demo on the Notes web site.

Ed_Brill : Did you replace the design of the mail templates?

Moderator: The chat will be ending in 5 minutes. We would like to thank our speakers Ed Brill and Jason Dumont for their time and expertise in addressing this issue. A full transcript of today's chat will be available online in a few days at http://searchdomino.techtarget.com/onlineEvents/0,289675,sid4,00.html

jbriner381681: Is there a way to export contacts from a windows client into a web client?

Jason_Dumont : You need to be more specific as to the type of client you mean. If you're using a Notes client you can bring in your contacts from your personal NAB to iNotes Web Access.

kgnehm204127: Will it be possible to migrate a remote cc:Mail client directly to inotes?

Ed_Brill : Yes. The same migration tools that are available now for upgrading cc:Mail to Notes apply to iNotes.

jason.hardin663204 : Does an iNotes design breakdown exist? (e.g. Redbook, YellowBook)

Jason_Dumont : Not at this point in time. You can find some information in the November issue of the Meet the Developers discussion on www.notes.net.

james527621: Where are the best resources for information and education regarding iNotes? (E.g., white papers, FAQs, forums, specs, etc.)

Jason_Dumont : www.lotus.com/inotes & www.notes.net/inotes and the links off of those sites.

jratcliff418614: Do you have any white papers comparing iNotes to Outlook Web Access?

Ed_Brill : Yes! There's a document on our "Compare" website at http://www.lotus.com/compare . It's called "Microsoft Outlook Web Access Fails to Impress -- "Shimmer" Steals the Show". Customers, press and analysts have already indicated that iNotes Web Access is superior to Outlook Web Access because of the offline support, full featureset, and rich user interface.

mlewis59721: How will Lotus iNotes Web Access benefit users?

Ed_Brill: As well as offering a low-touch, low-cost deployment, Lotus iNotes Web Access offers users a high-quality intuitive Web interface to all of their Domino PIM information. This new release includes the most robust set of mail, calendar and overall PIM functionality available in browsers today. Not only will Lotus iNotes Web Access allow users an additional choice for their Domino access client, it will be economical both from a procurement and deployment standpoint. Plus, users get the added value of off-line support for the ultimate in convenience.

scushman107330: What platforms are you supporting with Lotus iNotes Web Access?

Ed_Brill: Lotus iNotes Web Access allows an Internet Explorer 5+ user to access Domino for the Windows 32-bit platform.

bvigil43776: What is Domino Off-line Services and how does it work with Lotus iNotes Web Access?

Ed_Brill: DOLS is a key part of the Lotus iNotes Web Access offering, extending the benefits of replication to every Domino user. DOLS is also the technology used to deploy iNotes Access for Outlook, and will enable Outlook to replicate mail with Domino.

hrhsoleil150783: What is Lotus iNotes Web Access?

Ed_Brill: Lotus iNotes Web Access will provide messaging, collaboration and mobility to workers using a Web browser. Lotus iNotes Web Access includes Domino Off-Line Services, which lets users take Web-based Domino applications offline, including mail and calendaring.

dtart633935: What are the new features in Lotus iNotes Web access?

Jason_Dumont: The new release of Lotus iNotes Web Access includes Domino Off-line Services, which lets users take Web-based Domino applications offline, along with access to Domino-based apps from Internet Explorer 5 with increased performance, functionality, stronger capabilities, and with a Web-like look and feel. The new version of iNotes Web Access also offers a low touch install, easy deployment and secure logoff. Lotus iNotes Web Access will include extensive messaging features including, but not limited to, read/unread marks, spell check, out-of-office auto reply, preferences for sorting mail, and unlimited attachment support. Lotus iNotes Web Access will offer robust calendar and scheduling features including group scheduling and free-time look up, as well as all of the calendar printing options of the Notes client 5.06 client.

mtripp499690: How is Lotus iNotes Web Access installed?

Jason_Dumont: An end user can go to a secure URL, equipped with password and certificates (optional and provided by a system administrator). End users have immediate access to mail, PIM and menus. For off-line support, the users follow clicks to install the ActiveX controls you need to run DOLS for the first time.

cketcher381448: How does Lotus iNotes Web Access compare to the Web version of Outlook?

Ed_Brill: Exchange has historically delivered very poor Web-based mail services, with limited scalability and only basic features. The forthcoming Exchange 2000 offers a new version of Outlook Web Access (OWA), but the new version requires a Windows 2000 infrastructure deployment, a major investment. Even then, OWA 2000 is missing critical features like spell checking and offline support.

lbloss3082: When is this product going to be available?

Ed_Brill: Lotus iNotes Web Access will be available in the second quarter of 2001.

cferraro291165: How will this next version of Lotus iNotes Web Access differ from other solutions on the market today for Web-based mail?

Jason_Dumont: Lotus iNotes Web Access will provide a comprehensive set of functionality that goes well beyond what has been available to date to browser users looking for a single mail, cal & PIM solution. Lotus iNotes Web access is part of the Domino infrastructure, and provides more than just Web-based mail services. Further, by integrating with Domino Off-Line Services, Lotus iNotes Web access provides the unique ability to interact with the user's messaging environment while disconnected.

cdoss726382: Will Lotus iNotes Web Access be hosted by an ASP?

Jason_Dumont: Yes. Lotus iNotes Web Access is a great solution for internal deployment, and it's certainly not limited to the ASP market. However, it's ideal for many ASPs because it touts a no-touch-to-the-desktop model. ASPs will continue to host Notes/Domino. iNotes Web Access is not meant to displace that. It's meant to compliment that, and give customers more flexibility and choice.

jhogan830281: Why does Lotus feel the need to develop browser-based mail solutions? Are customers asking for this?

Ed_Brill: Many customers are looking towards standardizing on the browser as a client interface, yet they still want an enterprise-scale messaging and collaboration solution. Furthermore, this new client offers non-Notes/Domino shops additional options when moving to a Domino infrastructure. The low training and deployment costs combined with the high level of functionality and security make Lotus iNotes Web Access a powerful and cost-effective client choice. In addition, it provides a greater set of client options to existing customers and allows users to access Domino services anywhere/anytime. For example, a customer may want the ultimate in functionality, security and performance while in the office, therefore selecting the Notes client. However, when out of the office, that same customer may want browser-based access to equaled PIM functionality without the burden of additional administration or installation. Browsers are ubiquitous, and Lotus iNotes Web Access provides administrators with an easy way to offer Domino access to their users while out of the office.

ferrao37730: Can users have both mail using iNotes as well as the Notes Client?

Ed_Brill: Yes. The mail template serves both types of users with no modification.

ferrao37730: How do Personal Address Books work with iNotes? Where is it stored?

Jason_Dumont: The contacts in the personal address book that you know in the Notes world are in the iNotes Web Access world stored in the user's mail file. We provide a synch agent so that users of both the Notes client and iNotes Web Access client don't need to maintain 2 lists of contacts.

ferrao37730: How does archiving work with iNotes?

Jason_Dumont: Archiving is set up via the preferences tab of iNotes Web Access. There you will find many of the archiving options of the Notes client.

ferrao37730: Can iNotes sync with technologies like RIM's Blackberry or Palm?

Jason_Dumont: If you're using the Notes client & iNotes Web Access you can synch as usual. If you're using just iNotes Web Access you'll need the server side synch utility that comes with the Domino Everyplace Server. With that you can just initiate the synch from the PDA and the code will run on the Domino server to do the synch.

mark_royle6623: Is Inotes available for the iSeries yet?

Ed_Brill: Mark, iNotes Web Access will be available for the iSeries shortly after our first customer shipment. In answer to your other question, the iSeries team is working on several redbooks as far as iNotes deployments.

mbibb631510: How is iNotes performance wise, is it faster/slower than the current web mail (Release 5.0.5 and above) ?

Jason_Dumont: iNotes Web Access performs better than webmail and offers users more features.

jsnipper672821: Is IWA purely a template change or do the servers have to be 5.0.8 as well?

Ed_Brill: I think we answered this one already, but the server needs to be 5.0.8.

piannuccilli961424: What server platforms are supported for iNotes?

Ed_Brill: At first customer shipment, Win32 servers (Windows NT, Windows 2000, etc), Solaris, AIX, and shortly thereafter eServer iSeries. OS/390 will follow shortly after initial shipment. Other platforms will come with Rnext.

jimmie991980: I have a 5.06a server setup as the first server in a partioned config, would it be possible to run IWA as a partioned server?

Jason_Dumont: No reason that I can think of that you wouldn't be able to except you will need to upgrade your server to support iNotes Web Access.

atikhe987644: What is the major difference for iNotes in R5.08 and RNext?

Jason_Dumont: We're still working on it but it's basically these categories- Performance improvements, additonal platforms and more features!

james527621: So does the convert utility merely do a "design refresh" using the IWA template? Or is there a little more to it than that. Data conversion, perhaps?

Jason_Dumont: It's more of a design replace than a refresh. There is no data conversion that takes place with convert.

jason_brown839598: Why was the ability to create Contact Groups left out of the first release, given that you can already do it in the Webmail interface?

Jason_Dumont: It put other core features at risk. That feature will be in the second release of the product. You can also hack a work around with public group names (which are available in iNotes Web Access) and a reader names field so only the creator can access that group.

lhill365208: Multi-user desktops are a large concern in my environment. I understand that strides are being made to support this in version 6 of the notes client. Do you expect any issues supporting multi-users per desktop (ie a lab enviroment where many people share the same computer)

Jason_Dumont: No, in fact iNotes Web Access has been designed specifically to work in this environment. You should leverage the logout function, browser security and things like session authentication to ensure secure access in that type of environment.

francol2255: If I download the 2nd beta of 5.08 and replace the design on a R5 web mailbox, will the design look like the demo we have seen previously? The 1st beta version did not.

Jason_Dumont: Yes, and if you didn't see the iNotes Web Access interface before you may not have properly converted the database.

tiassa196961: From a configuration/management point of view, is it best to look at iNotes web as a replacement for earlier versions of WWW access to Domino mail files?

Jason_Dumont: iNotes Web Access is the future of web based access to Domino messaging & PIM features.

marilyn.l.custer587907: Can you please explain to me how the synchronization agent works?

Jason_Dumont: It's basically a LotusScript agent. There's nothing too fancy in it. You should be able to view it from within designer.

jratcliff418614: Will iNotes be the standard mail UI for RNext?

Ed_Brill: Probably not. The iNotes Web Access interface is optimized for a browser user. There's a lot of user interface improvement going into "Rnext", including skins support, a new approach to smarticons, and more. Look for more user interface improvements in subsequent betas of Rnext.

marilyn.l.custer793100: When 5.08 comes out with inotes as part of it, can we upgrade as normal? Will we have to do a fresh restall which would be horrible?

Jason_Dumont: You should be able to upgrade as normal.

robertse617535: What are plans for rendering for handheld and other devices (Palms, CE, internet enabled cell phones, RIM, etc.)?

Jason_Dumont: Either the existing synch tools that run via the Notes client or the tools that allow it to be done without a Notes client that comes with the Domino Everyplace Server.

tiassa196961: How would you recommend securing an iNotes server?

Jason_Dumont: It really depends on your needs. We have a logout functionality and support for reverse proxy servers in iNotes Web Access. You should also make smart use of the browser's capabilities for security and you should leverage all that Domino provides from a security standpoint (ie. session authentication, SSL, x509 certs, etc.).

hans.grangroth713865: Is DOLS now included with INotes?

Ed_Brill: Yes. DOLS has been included in the Domino server and iNotes licenses since R5.05.

beastman233517: I have heard that the inotes address book and the Notes PAB will sync. Is this true?

Jason_Dumont:: Yes, see other posts on the synch agent.

rambogjohn312460: When will an offline address book-preferably the directory catalog- exist for iNotes for Web?

Jason_Dumont: Not in the initial release but soon there after you should have it.

tiassa196961: If you have a full notes license, and are only using iNotes for quick reomte access, there is no additional license charge, correct?

Ed_Brill: As long as your Notes license is on software subscription, yes.

beastman233517: Is there anyway to change your internet password through iNotes?

Ed_Brill: Yes, it's in the preferences capability.

tsullivan609440: What does iNotes Web Access give you over iNotes Access for Outlook or what does it take away from my current Exchange/Outlook users?

Ed_Brill: iNotes Access for MS Outlook supports the Outlook desktop client. iNotes Web Access is a browser-based user interface. The features of iNotes Access for MS-Outlook are those available in the Outlook client, whereas iWA provides the features a browser user is looking for. They're really two different animals.

kgnehm204127: When using DOLS with inotes does replication occur in the background? Can they be scheduled?

Ed_Brill: Yes and Yes. The iNotes Sync Manager includes many capabilities for control of replication, and it runs as a separate, background process.

lcampbell595227: Will iNotes integrate a chat feature?

Jason_Dumont: iNotes Web Access supports integration with SameTime.

rambogjohn312460: Does iNotes provide a private, offline address book? Spell check? Delivery & read notifications?

Jason_Dumont:: Yes, yes, yes, yes & yes.

beastman233517: When will we see iNotes for UNIX flavor browsers like NS4.7?

Jason_Dumont: No plans at this time to support a UNIX version of Netscape 4.7.

ddijak111160: When a salesman is on the road, how does he access his mail via the browser? No more dial-up? How secure is that?

Jason_Dumont: You can still dial up to connect. We do a lot to cover security. We don't cache user data and if you use the tools we provide in iNotes Web Access & Domino as well as what the browser provides you should have secure access.

tiassa196961: What version of the Server code is the iNotes beta 2 based on?

Jason_Dumont: It's a pre 5.0.8 server.

myjunk619769: Is there any specific browser that must be used to view iNotes?

Jason_Dumont: IE 5.0 and above will be supported. Please see other posts on Netscape support, which we do plan on having at some point.

klambert424413: Would you recommend iNotes as an alternative to webmail AND to multiple/shared use computers?

Jason_Dumont: Yes!

paul.butler341789: Is the iNotes template Section 508 compliant?

Jason_Dumont: Not in the first release but we are working hard on supporting that in the near future.

rking181126: One last macOS question: Will R5.0.8 (which should include iNotes) include sniff of OS and Browser for compatibility reasons, or will we need to implement it on our side of a portal access?

Ed_Brill: We're detecting the browser and presenting the right UI. You can also force the webmail UI from the command line. Check the iNotes Web Access forum on notes.net for more details.

douglas_bromley834698: Is there a difference between iNotes and the Shimmer product I've been hearing about?

Ed_Brill: "Shimmer" is the code name for iNotes Web Access.

francis.obrien247826: Notes client allows browser selection now. How will that be handled in the future?

Ed_Brill: Sorry, Francis, we're focused on iNotes Web Access today, not the Notes client. Feel free to post your question in the Notes/Domino Gold Release forum on notes.net.

hans.miller466719: Any plans for having "new email" pop up functionality even when a browser session is not opened...something similar to notes minder functionality?

Jason_Dumont: Not in the first release.

Moderator: The Live Expert Q&A chat has now ended. Thanks for attending! And thank you Ed and Jason! Ed and Jason will answer questions that were entered before 1:00 offline. Check our transcripts for updates and more answers to questions.

lhill365208: How will users be informed when their mail file has reach quota using iNotes Web Access?

Jason_Dumont: There's nothing unique to IWA here. Whatever the normal means is should go unchanged.

mdrawbaugh986359: If you already have a web-based application built upon Domino, that takes advantage of email notifications and tickles, will iNotes add value by offering additional functionality or integration to traditional messaging for the client?

Jason_Dumont: It will provide a richer web client for the rendering of those messages via the browser.

hans.miller466719: What plans are there for rendering Notes doc/view/database links when receiving Notes client based mail?

Jason_Dumont: They display as links and if the target of the link is available for web viewing you should be able to view it.

lcampbell595227: The Beta and the Demo differ in some respects. Which reflects what the product will look like when released?

Jason_Dumont: The more recent the code the more it reflects he shipping product. At this time, code on the beta site is more current than the code on the hosted site. It just depends on what was updated last.

robertse617535: Does the "iNotes piece" of the software have to run on the same server as the mail files? Can the extra iNotes processing be handled by a separate server or is it necessary to beef up the existing mail server(s).

Jason_Dumont: At this time the mail files need to reside on the machine where Domino 5.0.8 and the iNotes Web Access template is located. It may not be necessary but if you're moving from a Notes client (client/server) model to a iNotes Web Access (thin client) model I would recommend you maximize the CPU power on the server.

tracey.brown77744: Any stats on the performance (CPU specifically) of iNotes on the AS400 DSD's?

Jason_Dumont: Not at this time.

maraposa3301: Will iNotes be an upgrade from Domino R5 or a separate package?

Jason_Dumont: IWA will ship as part of the 5.0.8 Domino server and therefore is an upgrade from another R5 server.

tiassa196961: Do the users mail files need to be on the same server as iNotes Web? Is there a way to configure it so that the iNotes server is in a DMZ and serves mail files "on the inside"?

Jason_Dumont: No,Yes, the users mail files need to be on the same server as iNotes Web. No, there is no way to configure that, but we are looking at such things as a possibility for a future release.

bob_sintzel85486 : When you do point releases, will you consider versioning your point releases and provide a detailed list of what fixes were made per version?

Jason_Dumont: This is provided on Notes.net

rpearson822781: We're in the middle of an R5.06a roll out/migration. Where or how would I begin to look at or implement iNotes?

Jason_Dumont: Upgrade your servers to 5.0.8, when available, ensure people have a HTTP password and run the convert utility on the design of their mail file.

mbibb631510: I understand that IE 5 is recommended for Inotes but does it support Netscape 4.7x or 6?

Jason_Dumont: It will not offer full support for either Netscape version in the initial release, however we are committed to delivering a Win32 version of IWA for Netscape 4.7. Since Netscape 4.7 doesn't understand DHTML, XML, DOM2, etc. We have had to rearchitect the product to get it to work under Netscape. This will take more time and therefore you'll see beta quality support for Netscape around the time of the first release. We expect to have fully supported Netscape 4.7 support as part of Rnext. At this point in time we have no committed plans for Netscape 6 support, but we a re evaluating it.
