IBM released an add-on for its WebSphere platform, which automates human resources processes and gives employees a way to get benefits information on their own.
The IBM Self-Service Accelerator lets hiring managers and HR employees streamline the way they add new employees, activate raises and automate vacation planning as well as other tasks. It also lets employees enroll in benefits and make changes to their benefits.
Customers can integrate the data from their HR business software from SAP AG, based in Walldorf, Germany. IBM is in the process of determining whether it will provide a version that integrates data from PeopleSoft business software, which Oracle Corp., based in Redwood Shores, Calif., acquired in January 2005.
"We see this as a way to help overworked HR departments that are being asked to do more with few resources," said Marty Lechleider, program director of IBM's Lotus Workforce Management division.
IBM in April made available its WebSphere Portal v. 6.0 and the first accelerator for WebSphere, the IBM Dashboard Accelerator. The Dashboard Accelerator has the tools and frameworks for customers that want an at-a-glance dashboard for specific uses, such as sales, which would show customer data and satisfaction data as well as top leads, according to IBM.
IBM said it is planning additional accelerators for WebSphere. For example, there is one coming for collaboration and another for content, which will let customers build and manage Web sites, intranets, extranets and portals with advanced search capabilities. It also plans to release an Enterprise Suite Accelerator some time this year that will pull together content, advanced search capabilities, collaboration and dashboard accelerators.
