Customizing the Personal Notes Navigator with the Internet Options Document
Now that you know your way around the Personal Notes Navigator screen, it is time to customize the document with your personal preferences. Your navigator is customized using the Internet Options document. You can display this document, shown in Figure 9.11, by choosing Actions, Internet Options in the Personal Web Navigator database.
Figure 9.11
The Internet Options document enables you to customize your Personal Web Navigator database. The Internet Options screen is divided into six tabbed pages with the following functions:
Web AheadNotes preloads Web page links up to four layers deep if you activate this option. Enter the number of layers you want to preload, and then click the Enable Web Ahead button. To preload pages for a site, drag and drop the Web page into the Web Ahead folder. While you are reading the first page, Notes is busy in the background loading additional pages that are linked from that page. You can then access those linked pages more quickly, or you can read them offline at a later time.
The Web Ahead feature runs an agent on your local workstation.
Page MinderIf you enable Page Minder, Notes automatically searches Web pages that have been dragged and dropped into the Page Minder folder. If a page has changed on the Internet, you or the person you designate will be mailed a summary of the page or a copy of the full page, depending on the options you select. You can have the Page Minder run once an hour, once every four hours, once a day, or once a week.
Size OptionsYou can specify that documents are automatically deleted or reduced to links if they have not been read in 15, 30, 60, or 90 days. You must enable Housekeeping for Notes to automatically delete documents or reduce them to links. You can also have Notes warn you when the Personal Web Navigator reaches 5, 10, 25, or 50MB in size. You can then go to the House Cleaning view and delete pages that you no longer want to save.
Collaboration OptionsYou can specify a server and a shared Web Navigator database where Web pages and your personal ratings are sent when you select Actions, Share.
PresentationYou can specify how the Personal Web Navigator displays rich text that is defined using different HTML tags, such as body text, address text, and anchor text (that is, links). You can also specify that you want to save rich text and HTML if you want to have access to the code used to create the page, or you can save pages as MIME only.
User Preferences
In the Additional Options list box, which you can find at the bottom of the Basics tab of the User Preferences dialog box (choose File, Preferences, User Preferences), are several options to check that control some aspects of the Personal Web Navigator when it is used with the Notes browser.
