You know when you've found a usability tidbit on the Web that was "way cool," but when you went to find it later on you just could not find it? This tip is a great usability "fix" for the troubled instant messaging chat interface in Domino Web Access. One of my clients kept complaining about the fact that the Web Access client's chat interface had several issues affecting its use, and almost all of these issues have open SPR's with Lotus. The client could care less if the issue is reported or not. The client's concern is that it doesn't work -- period. Well, this INI setting saved the day:

This will turn off the default chat client and give the Web Access user the JavaConnect client for instant messaging (and a lot more). Now users can be added to groups, the buddy lists are saved every time and files can be sent directly back and forth between users (instead of via e-mail).

ult setting (default is 0 not 1), but this is a solid fix for the problem. Now, if we could only have such a setting for the Lotus Notes client and its faulty built in chat client.
