Administrators' uses for tools like LotusScript and the like vary according to their individual styles. No matter -- a sometimes overlooked improvement to Notes/Domino 6 known as the NotesAdministrationProcess class may be a 'tool' worth taking a look at for admins on the front lines of IT.

The NotesAdministrationProcess tries to bridge that time-worn gap between developers and administrators. Whoever you are, it can help you handle many basic, repetitive tasks such as recertifying users and deleting user accounts.

In order to support wider sets of group operations than might be natively and easily supported in NotesAdministrationProcess, custom LotusScript classes can be useful, writes Andre Guirard. He provides useful examples.

What is in store for administrative enhancement to Lotus Domino 7.0? Administration scriptability is listed as one part of the shape of things to come -- but it is too early to gauge what that will boil down to in the general release. Lotus Domino 7.0 as a golden beta will be on display later this month at LotusSphere 2005. SearchDomino.com will be at that event in Orlando, Fla. to dig into the administrative script moves to be made.
