Data security and the validity of existing data may weigh heavy on the minds of Lotus Notes Domino security administrators. The DirLint command-line utility in Lotus Notes Domino 8 allows admins to verify information contained within a directory, helping to ease any data security anxieties.

By running against the Domino directory, DirLint helps Notes users identify name syntax errors and problems with naming hierarchy schemes. DirLint can also maintain consistency by using Directory Assistance to validate names found within Lotus Notes users' groups.

To load the DirLint command-line utility, type "load dirlint" on the server console. Upon doing so, the tool will begin validating the directory and will create a final validation report.

The DirLint tool creates output files in XML format, allowing users to read reports with any Internet web browser. All output information is stored at the following location:
\\Domino\data\IBM\IBM_TECHNICAL_SUPPORT\lintout_(ServerName)_(Date) , so users can easily locate and verify the file.
