If you've had difficulty deploying Notes/Domino applications to users, the introduction of Widgets in Notes/Domino 8.0.1 may be your solution. To use the Widgets for application deployment, you'll need to follow four basic steps:
  1. Create a database with an outline menu that contains entries pointing to the applications that you'd like to deploy. Then embed this outline on a page and a Navigator.
  2. Open the Navigator in your Notes client and create a widget from it.
  3. Create a Widget Catalog on your Domino server (version 8.0.1 or higher). Then add the widget to a catalog in a group of widgets that you plan to deploy to your clients.
  4. Create/edit a desktop settings document used in a policy, such as an organizational policy. Next, modify the items on the Widgets tab to point to your Domino server, database and Widget Catalog database. You'll also want to enable the My Widget panel side bar in your settings document.

It took me about 30 minutes to implement these four steps. You can personalize which applications you'd like to roll out to different users in your organization.
