There's a known bug in the 5.05 mail template that when you save a document as a draft and then send it - the memo always opens in edit mode in the recipient's mail file. This is a bug in 5.04a as well but I didn't test this code on a 5.04a mail template. The cause is that someone evidently forgot to delete the field $AutoEditMode. No big deal! The solution is to modify the template (thus voiding the warranty), and remove the $AutoEditMode field when the memo is sent. Below is the code from the CoreEmailClasses script library. The only code that I changed was: a) define a const called ITEM_AUTOEDITMODE$ = "$AutoEditMode" - which I don't show below but if you look at the script library, it's pretty apparent where the constants go and b) add 2 lines of code under the Case MEMO_SEND section (shown below). I added the rem '***** by jy' to denote the 2 changes. Fixed! Now you don't have to wait for 5.05a (to get this bug fixed anyway)! PS. You'll want to add the line of code in b) above to the MEMO_SEND_FILE section in the CoreEmailClasses as well (it's the next CASE statement) as well.
