Launch Different Desktops With Separate Lotus Notes Icons

1) Make a backup of your current desktop5.dsk (desktop.dsk for R4x users) and a backup of your notes.ini and copy them to a different directory.

2) Open Notes and modify your workspace to satisfy one of your conditions (for example...ClientABC). Exit Notes and rename the desktop5.dsk file to another name such as ABCdesk.dsk

3) Open the notes.ini and add a path to the new ABCdesk.dsk just below the first line that reads [Notes]. This path should read as follows: desktop=filepath\ABCdesk.dsk (where filepath is the path to your new desktop.dsk file. (for example, desktop=c:\data\notes\ABCdesk.dsk). Now save this notes.ini file to a new name such as ABCnotes.ini

4) Copy your original desktop5.dsk and notes.ini files back to their original locations.

Create a new shortcut to your notes.exe program file on your Windows desktop. You may want to name this Shortcut something like ABCNotes. Open the shortcut properties by right-clicking on the new icon and selecting Properties. Then click on the Shortcut tab and locate the Target field. Modify the path to the Target so that it points to the new ABCnotes.ini. Your Target should read something like this:
C:\Notes\notes.exe =c:\data\notes\ABCnotes.ini.
Click Apply at the bottom to save the settings and then click OK.

6) Right-click on your original Notes icon and again go to the Properties. Click on the Shortcut tab and locate the Target field. Verify your Target is pointing to the original notes.ini. This Target should read something like this:
C:\Notes\notes.exe =c:\data\notes\notes.ini.
If you made changes, click Apply and then OK.

You should now be able to open your Notes and work in either desktop, depending on the Shortcut icon you select.

Note: Repeat steps 1 thru 5 for additional desktops.
