There are just a few steps to follow for troubleshooting LEI (Lotus Enterprise Integrator) Advanced RealTime Activities.

First, try the intended RealTime Activity as a Direct Transfer (DT). DT's are the simplest Activity in LEI's arsenal, and they are the easiest to get working (and working correctly.) They are also a convenient way to test metadata mapping and datatypes between the backend system and your Notes applications.

DT's offer a convenient method for inspecting a data table, view and/or store procedure. Just point to the source and use the automatic field mapping option, enter a destination Notes Form name that does not already exist, and allow Metadata creation (to create a generic Notes Form to get matching datatypes).

Set the "Maximum number of records to transfer" number low (100 is usually sufficient), so that you don't get too many records if you are working with a big external database.

Save and run the Activity. If the job fails then use the Log Link to see the error message and fix any problems that may exist on the Activity or in the LEI server's configuration.

Once the Activity executes successfully, you can inspect the newly created Notes Form and the data that was transferred. Try this tip the next time you're working with LEI and it should save you some time and a few headaches along the way!
