A default install of Domino 5.x does not install a client. If there is no client installed, use Explorer to locate the database you want to examine; then, double click the icon to open the database in a Notes client (with manager access). You can then use the Notes client as normal.

One caveat: anything you ask the Domino server to do will only happen whilst the Notes client is open. For example, if you full text index a database through the client and then close that Notes client, the FTI will stop.

MEMBER FEEDBACK TO THIS TIP

I believe on a Win32 R5 Domino Server you can also launch the nlnotes.exe file to bring up the client.

Not really a great tip at all.

The Domino server DOES have a Notes client installed. Just like the default Notes client install, the program directory on the Domino server contains NLNOTES.EXE. Starting NLNOTES.EXE from the program directory of either Notes or Domino will execute a Notes client.

—Matt N.

******************************************

Why not just put a shortcut to nlnotes.exe on the desktop of the server? It's a lot easier way to start the client.

—Peter T.

******************************************

It is not very secure to have a Notes client installed on the Domino server.

—Julien J.
