Creating An Array From A Field With Multiple Values Using Javascript

Suppose a field with multiple values is to be stored into an array using
Javascript.
Let Subject be the field and the values are seperated with semicolumns.The
name of the array is x.
//The value of subject is assigned to temp variable
temp=document.forms[0].Subject.value;
temp = temp+";"
varLength=temp.length;
position1=temp.indexOf(";");
part1=temp.substr(0,position1);
count=0;
//initializing the array
var x=new Array();
while (part1!=""){
x[count]=part1;
temp=temp.substr(position1+1,varLength-1);
varLength=temp.length;
position1=temp.indexOf(";");
part1=temp.substr(0,position1);
count=count+1;
