Fixing ZapNotes problem

View member feedback to this tip.

The ZapNotes utility looked like the answer to the irritation of having to reboot every time that Notes crashed (5.0.10 under Win 95).

Unfortunately it did not work but gave the message:

Error : 424Line : 0Description : Object required (Please report this to zapnotes@us.ibm.com)
I reported this a couple of times, but got no response and gave up. Then I looked at the zapnotes.log file and found the line:
C:WINDOWSkillnt95.exe not found -- copying from installation directory
When I manually copied killnt95.exe from the ZapNotes to the Windows folder, it started working, and is an enormous boon.

Use KillNotes instead.

Yep...KillNotes is much better than ZapNotes and eliminates all instances of Notes in a fraction of a second; whereas ZapNotes takes what seems like a lifetime to process all the Notes services.
