Tip: Test Selected Doc(S) From A View Action

I use this code when I need to conditionally allow users to create response
docs. If they don't have the right type of document selected in the view they
can not continue. You can easily modify the test conditons to meet your needs
and modify the code at the end to perform tasks other than creating a new UI
Document.
Sub Click(Source As Button)
Dim session As New NotesSession
Dim ws As New NotesUIWorkspace
Dim db As NotesDatabase
Dim collection As NotesDocumentCollection
Dim doc As NotesDocument
Dim newUIDoc As NotesUIDocument
Set db = session.CurrentDatabase
Set collection = db.UnprocessedDocuments 'In a View Action, this is
the selected documents

msgTitle = "Can not create YourNewDocName"

If collection.Count = 0 Or collection.Count > 1 Then
'Test for 0 in case user has a Category selected
'Test for >1 to force them to select a single doc
Beep
Msgbox "A single YourOldDocName must be selected in order to create
YourNewDocName", 0+16, msgTitle
End 'Don't do anymore of this script...
End If

For i = 1 To collection.Count
'Used a loop in case you need logic to process multiple documents
Set doc = collection.GetNthDocument( i )
If doc.Form(0) <> "YourOldDocName" Then
Beep
Msgbox "A YourOldDocName must be selected in order to create
YourNewDocName", 0+16, msgTitle
End 'Don't do anymore of this script...
End If

If doc.Status(0) = "OnHold" Then
Beep
msg = "YourNewDocName can not be created from a YourOldDocName
in OnHold status."
Msgbox msg, 0+16, msgTitle
Else
Set newUIDoc = ws.ComposeDocument( "", "", "YourNewDocName" )
'or whatever else you want to do to the selected doc
End If
Next
End Sub
