Assigning computers to users

I have a form with computers' serial numbers and a form with users. I'd like to assign a serial number to a user using a dialog list. But, I only want to show serial numbers in the list that aren't already assigned to another user.

So if I have created a user and assigned a serial number to them, I don't want to see the serial number in the list when I create another user; this way people can never assign a serial number to more than one person. Can you help me with this problem?

When you assign a computer to a user, you should update the user document with the computer document unique key and you should also assign a unique key to the computer document that was assigned. If this isn't required, (I suspect down the road it might be), you can just update a flag field in the computer document indicating it is assigned.

For the view that populates the picklist of computers, have the selection formula exclude computers where there is a user-assigned value or flag.
