Calculating employee time-off for an HR department

I have the following problem: I am writing an application for the HR Department of my enterprise (Notes 5.0.9a). I have a Form which will allow me to calculate how many holidays an employee took from a start date to an end date. I would like to compute how may days in a month they took off, separated through the twelve months.

Here's an example: Start_date: 01/12/2002 End_date: 02/06/2002
Result: 26 Days - 20 Days in January and 6 in February.

I can get the total count (26), but I don't know how to automatically compute the days for each month. Any help would be appreciated.
You will need to set static variables for the maximum days in each month and take into account leap years, which would mean that there will be an extra day to account for in February. In your program code, you will need to refer to the static value for any given to determine the number of days in each month.

Example: JANDAYS = 31
FEBDAYS = 28
FEBLYDAYS = 29
