Can I create a pop-up window in an R5 Notes client when new data arrives in a view?

Is there a way to create a pop-up window in the Notes Client (R5) when new data arrives in a view? I'm looking for something like e-mail notification, but not using e-mail.

I have a Workflow app through which users are supposed to monitor a view for something to do, and the "refresh" arrow on the view is not enough for them to see that they have something new.

Is this best done using a local client agent running every minute or so to see if the view matches the desired criteria? Or is there a better way? Thanks!

It's odd. I am sure that several products have been available that do what you describe. I have tried looking for them, but it looks like they have disappeared. I'm thinking of an application that sits in the System tray in Windows and that checks a specified database every X number of minutes for new documents that meet certain criteria; then the app would display a pop-up when it finds a match.

Your idea of running a local agent seems OK, too.
