I am a UK Notes 6 developer who is about to inherit a system that uses Lotus Domino to connect to an Oracle DB.
I want to avoid having to install native connectivity on all my clients, so can I switch to DECS to retrieve external data upon exiting a key field? That is, as part of document creation in a form, the user enters a customer order number and then exits the field. Upon doing this, other fields are populated with data from the Oracle DB obtained via the key field entered (e.g., work orders, customer name, etc.).
From what I have read about DECS, data retrieval can only be initiated by higher level triggers like opening and closing a form. Any ideas or suggestions will be gratefully received. Thanks.
The key to this is to use a form and infobox to get the key information from the user, then, when they enter the information, open a lookup document that inhertits the key value and triggers the DECS lookups.
