Can Notes workflow be implemented into J2EE?

Can the Notes workflow functionality be implemented into the J2EE environment? If so, what is the minimum software requirement (WSAS, WSS, WebSphere Portal, etc.)?
Unlike Notes, J2EE doesn't offer a framework for building workflow applications. There are J2EE workflow frameworks available from third parties, and the minimum software requirements depend on the third-party solution. From an IBM offering perspective, Lotus Workplace will definitely become the J2EE equivalent of Notes, and I believe you will start seeing a lot more workflow features in new Workplace releases in 2005.
