Can't send and receive mail

I have a single R5 server to handle both inbound and outbound mail. I have enabled the set 'SMTP send out mail outside of the local internet domain'. But it is still not working. If I added a relay host address, all the pending mail could be send out. Any idea?
Does this server have connectivity to the Internet? Does it have DNS resolution capabilities for Internet addresses? If so, then you shouldn?t have any connection docs, or domain docs, other than your global domain doc. Routing would happen automatically. If this server doesn?t have a direct connection, then you will have to input a relay host and setup a foreign SMTP domain doc for *.*. You will also need a connection document for SMTP to route directly to that relay host.
