Client mail error: 'Attempt to use an invalid database pointer'

I am running Domino R5. Suddenly, all across my 100 clients, users are facing problems while sending mail from their clients. The error message displayed is, "Attempt to use an invalid database pointer." I observed that this happens when someone picks addresses from the local address book of the end-user client and for some external e-mail addresses. All was working fine until yesterday. Today, I am facing this problem. There have been no changes on Domino.
I'm afraid I don't have a quick fix for you on this one. The only way I've fixed this error is to rename and recreate the offending directories. This isn't a simple task with 100+ clients. Do you have comments on this Ask the Expert question and response? Let us know.
