Clients are getting "server not responding" messages and mailboxes are sluggish to open

I have Domino 5.0.8 running with 160 clients. Suddenly I started facing a problem with server performance. Clients are getting "server not responding" error messages and it sometimes takes too long to open a mailbox.

I tried following options:

  1. Updated service pack of Windows NT
  2. Scanned for viruses
  3. Reduced mailbox size by archiving all mail.

Do you have any other ideas for me to try?
It could be a memory leak. 5.0.8 is not one of the stronger releases available. I would move to 5.0.11. Also, you didn't say how much RAM you have, but if it is less than 512 MB, you need to bump it up.
