This question involves compacting on a R5 (5.0.11) server with Circular Transaction Logging enabled and Max. Log Size set to 500 MB.
When a user goes to the Database Properties window on their client and %Used is below 90%, the user clicks on "compact," closes the mail file and reopens it. The disk space has not been reduced and %Used still remains the same as before. Is there a possible solution to this problem?
Only a copy style compaction can reduce space. These cannot be performed on a database that is in use. You need to schedule compacts to run during off hours, and most of the files will be available for compacting.
