Creating a link on an HTML page to a Microsoft Word attachment in a Lotus Notes database

SearchDomino.com LotusScript expert Cregg Hardwick helps a Domino developer who wants to create a link on an HTML page to a Microsoft Word attachment in a Lotus Notes database.

I want to be able to attach a Microsoft Word document in the Lotus Notes database and then create an HTML page where I can create a link to that document. When I click on the link, only the document should be opened, not the database. Is this possible?

Also, is it possible to configure permissions in such a way that the Microsoft Word document saved in the Lotus...

Notes database as an attachment cannot be saved on the local drive or printed?

You need to use the http://Host/Database/View/Document/$File/Filename?OpenElement URL syntax. For full details on Domino URL syntax, take a look at the Domino URL cheat sheet on the IBM Web site.

I'm 99% sure you cannot prevent a user who can see the file from downloading or printing it -- at least not within Lotus Notes. You might be able to make the file read-only and print-resistant before you attach it, but that's another question altogether.
