Domino server crashes when trying to list tables on Oracle server

I have a NT 4.0 (SP6A) server running Domino R 5.0.8 installed with the DECS option. Notes.ini contains the required line
EXTMGR_ADDINS=nedecsext.dll.
On the same server I have installed the Oracle 8 (8.1.6.3) client.
"nlctest" reports a connection to the Oracle server.
When I create a connection document in the DECS Administrator database, the Domino server crashes CONSISTENTLY (even R 4.6.7 did) whenever I click the twistie which will list the tables on the Oracle Server. It does the same if I choose views or try to enter a table manually. What is wrong in this picture?
If you are using the Oracle Connector that comes with Domino R5 &/or Designer for R5 then you should visit http://www.lotus.com/ei and download the new Lotus Connector for Oracle 8 (for Oracle 8 and 8i). Install the Connector on server (and your development workstation - for future use) and try the Connection document again.
