I am developing a DECS 2 Oracle app. Seems like the only fields that I can get to populate in the view are those defined as keys. I only want one key mapped and the rest to be fields that I can update. The key cannot be updated. How can I map one key with the rest as fields and have the related data appear in my Notes form available for update? I feel like I've missed a setting or something.
The best answer to this question is for you to use Domino 6 along with LEI 6 and its Advanced RealTime Virtual Activities. The RTVAs render the data in real time at the view level. However, I'm going to guess that you are running R5 and will be for a while or that you do not want to buy LEI. The good news is that storing the Oracle data so that it is available in the Notes application's views is very easy. To have view-level access to the Oracle data you need to configure your DESC activity/activities to "Leave All [or Selected] RealTime Fields in Documents." The DECS default value of "Remove All RealTime Fields From Documents" is most likely currently selected. These options are found on the Activity document under the Options-General twistie and they are labeled Data Storage. However, there is a downside. The Notes views can quickly become out of sync with the Oracle table(s), depending on the frequency of changes within Oracle. D6/LEI6 overcome this problem by also making the views data RealTime.
