Is there a reason to keep the 'Island Connection' while disconnected from the Internet?

While you're disconnected from the Internet, is there a valid reason to keep the "Island Connection" versus, say, an Internet connection that has a replication schedule? I realize that Island was intended to be used while one would be disconnected but what adverse affects, if any, exist if not using the Island location while disconnected? Thank you.
There really won't be any adverse affects. Your client might get tied up trying to reach the server, but that will be temporary. You may also get "Server not responding" messages when it tries to replicate.
