Manipulate UI functionality from a back-end script

I've worked professionally with Lotus Notes/Domino since version 1.1. Do you know of a programmatic way that will allow me to manipulate UI functionality from a back-end script? Or do you know of anyone who might have developed an LSX to allow this? How I can make an outside functionality of a Notes call to the Notes UI?

If you want to hide/show some buttons, you can have hidewhen formulas for those buttons/actions that are based on field values. Change those values in the back end, refresh the UI and the actions will change their appearance.

A lot can be done through script. The Midas rich text products developed by Ben Langhinrichs at Genii Software provide some truly great ways of manipulating rich text.
