Prevent a new document from showing up in a user?s Inbox

Is there a way to prevent a new document from showing up in a user?s Inbox when mailed? I am looking for a method without user intervention- no mailing rules. I have tried different things like adding fields to the document such as "ExcludeFromView" and "MailFirstPass." Is there any documentation on what the C&S classes do in the mail database?
Unfortunately, the inbox is a folder and does not use selection formula. As long as the Inbox is the default view, the router will place new messages in the inbox. If you have a particular message type that you wish to remove from the inbox, you could use a queryopen script to remove the items from the folder. However, this would involve modifying all the mail templates.
