R5 database has reached its limit

I have a database which has reached 4GB in size with approximately 9000 documents. It's working fine on R5 server but my local replica (R5 Client) is giving the error "insufficient disk space" whenever I perform any operations on it or replicate it with server. How can I create a local replica with more than a 4GB limit?
I know that R4 has a hard 4GB limit. I know that R6 has effectively no limit. But I cannot recall about R5. Can you upgrade to R6?
