Real-time notification of things that happen in databases

I know that alarms will only work for the mailbox specified in the client location document. We have a mail database (iNotes6.ntf) being used by someone for a separate set of calendar entries for her department. She wants to set e-mail reminders for calendar entries in that database and they don't work. Is there a workaround for setting calendar alarms (e-mail) in a database other than your own mail database? I read in notes.net that you could write an agent that triggers from the $alarms folder but I am not a developer and am not very good with agents.
I wrote an article in The View about how to get notified in real-time about things that happen in databases other than your mail. If you aren't a subscriber, you can still download the sample database.

If you want to send e-mail reminders, an ordinary agent will also work -- run on "all documents," rather than on incoming e-mail.
