Sending an encrypted Notes e-mail to Exchange

How can you send encrypted e-mail from Lotus Notes to Exchange and back without converting it to plain text first?
You definitely do not want to convert the e-mail to plain text -- then it would not be encrypted. Both Notes and Outlook support the Internet standard SMIME for secure e-mail, so this will work.
